Day 6 July 26

Today the boys woke up and wanted bacon so we cooked all the bacon aboard the boat coming in close to 5 pounds.  After we had our fill we headed to the town dock and caught a ride to portsmouth island.  Portsmouth island is next to Ocracoke and was abandoned in the 80s for safety reasons.  The island then became a national park to persevere the village which had operated in the same Manor since the early 1900s. When we arrived at the island and dug in the sand for clams.  After an hour and half we found about 50 which would make the basis of our chowder for dinner.  We then explored the town and saw all of the old houses and the church. After exploring the island we headed back to Ocracoke for a late lunch of burgers at smacnallys the best burger place on the island. The kids then enjoyed an afternoon of free time and for dinner we feasted on fresh clam chowder.
